PhD Scholarship in nanomaterials for electronic devices at RMIT University
We are looking for talented, highly motivated students with an education in chemistry, nanotechnology, materials science or equivalent to undertake world-leading research in the synthesis of novel nanomaterials and the fabrication thin-film devices. Available projects include:
- Plasmonic Semiconducting Nanocrystals: Bridging the Gap Between Metals and Semiconductors
- Novel p-type Transparent Conducting Oxides.
- Photo-activity of Atomically Engineered Semiconductor Nanostructures.
Candidates must demonstrate the following:
1. A Bachelor degree with honours or a Master’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, Nanotechnology, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related field.
2. Previous experience in synthesising and/or characterising nanomaterials.
3. Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
4. Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
Proof of publications in peer reviewed journals, even if not mandatory, is desirable.
Applicants must also meet RMIT’s entry requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy.
The selected candidate will be offered a full PhD scholarship (up to 29,288 AUD per annum for up to 3.5 years) in the School of Science at RMIT University, based in the Melbourne City campus.
The PhD student will conduct cutting-edge research in the field of nanotechnology, and specifically in the synthesis and characterisation of novel nanomaterials, and in the fabrication of efficient electronic devices, as part of an ARC-funded project. The student will develop a skill set that will be highly regarded for future career opportunities (for example in manufacturing and chemical industries, academia, consulting and IP firms).
As part of the research project, the student will work in a highly multidisciplinary environment, with state of the art facilities and within a group of young and motivated researchers that will provide mentoring and guidance. Opportunities to develop local, national and international collaborations with other Universities and research organisations (such as CSIRO), and to participate to conferences and workshops may also be available.
