The Public Engagement group has broad responsibility to oversee RMIT University’s cultural and publicly engaged sites and collections, and support the connection across teaching and research, partners and audience through the delivery of public engagement.

The Role

The Collections Manager is responsible for the oversight and management of RMIT’s Collections and Archives including RMIT’s Art Collection, Design Archives, Australian Film Institute (AFI) Research Collection and associated collections.

This new role will see the Collections Manager develop and manage an enterprise-wide framework for Collections and Archives to enhance research, teaching, and engagement in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.

The Collections Manager holds a senior role in the newly established Public Engagement Group, comprised of RMIT’s publicly engaged entities, precincts, spaces and collections.

Your Accountabilities

This role will see you provide high level advise and guidance to the Head of Public Engagement; oversee the care and management of RMIT’s collections and archives; oversee the budget for the Collections and Archives team; actively source internal and external funding to support activities; and initiate, develop and strengthen strategic links between research, learning and teaching, industry, government, external and RMIT communities.

About You

The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:

  1. Extensive experience in collections and archive management within collaborative environments.
  2. Demonstrated skills and experience with programming and showcasing collections and archives to broad and diverse communities.
  3. Demonstrated ability to establish and engage networks and build collaborative relationships across a diverse range of organisations, industries and the cultural sector.
  4. Experience in leading and motivating a team to provide high quality outputs.
  5. Proven ability to develop, manage and implement budgets.
  6. Solid understanding of, and professional experience and reputation, in the cultural sector.

Qualifications

A museum or curatorial qualification at post graduate level and an information management degree desirable.

Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
