  • Remuneration at Academic Level B ($98,495 - $116,965) + 17% Superannuation

About the Role
 
As the Research Fellow, you will be part of a team working on a project funded by an ARC Linkage Grant. This project aims to develop effective techniques to identify the sources of fuel losses, such as leaks and calibration errors in underground storage tanks at service stations. The project expects to use machine learning to develop the techniques and test them with live data at service stations. In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Data collection and pre-processing
  • Applying machine learning techniques for separating out the sources of error and detecting leaks
  • Design and develop fast and robust online machine learning algorithms for anomaly detection
  • Working closely with industry partner and the software programmer in developing a next-generation software suite with enhanced algorithmic transparency

About You

As the successful applicant you will have:

  • Strong background in statistics, machine learning, data mining and anomaly detection and extensive experience in developing solutions for real-world data mining problems
  • Deep understanding and industry experience in fuel leak detection for underground petroleum storage system (UPSSs) at service stations
  • Experience in designing and developing integrated software tools catering for customer needs
  • Emerging track record and recognition for quality research outputs in the fields of data mining and anomaly detection
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as a part of the team across various disciplines

Qualifications

Mandatory: PhD or equivalent in relevant field
