About You & the Role
• Design and develop a spatially representative synthetic population for Australian and UK cities and regions, with detailed demographics and routed trips to test the effects of built environment scenarios• Conduct research focusing on four key tasks outline in this project though collaboration and using resources effectively:- Using geospatial analysis undertaken by JIBE collaborators to match population demographics to built environment measures associated with people’s travel behaviours and choices- Upgrade and develop exposure and health impact models for Australian and UK cities and regions to assess health and environmental impacts of built environment interventions- Developing and implementing built environment interventions identified by external stakeholders and studying effects on the travel behaviours of the synthetic populations- Disseminating research findings through publications, reports, algorithms and tools• Contribute to preparing and submitting competitive research papers on spatial analysis methods, as well as publications resulting from the work of the team and grant submissions & funding• Prepare and participate in presenting research findings and outcomes at seminars/conferences/guest lectures • Assist in supervising and mentoring postgraduate research students• Collaborate and build effective relationships with external stakeholders, data providers, custodians, and collaborators, as well as providing technical support and leadership to modelers within the team
You will have:
• Knowledge and expertise in the use of spatial analysis in an applied field, including working knowledge with GIS software and spatial databases• Hands-on experience in designing and use of agent-based models including activity-based transport models• In-depth experience in utilising software development, including use of open source technologies and version control• Strong proficiency and skilled with statistical analysis packages, including data analysis and prototyping in R• Excellent research track records (nationally and/or internationally) in proven track record of highly rated Scopus-indexed publications in research field relevant for this project• Ability to communicate (verbally and written) research findings, technical concepts and knowledge with sound problem-solving & analytical skills to non-technical audiences• Passion and commitment to build strong relationships across all levels of professional staff within the organisation and industry as well as proven ability to source and seek alternative funding for projects through strengthening of partnerships with industry & external stakeholders• Proven experience in co-supervising post graduate students relevant to this area of expertise
Mandatory: PhD qualified in Computer Science, Geospatial Science or other relevant degree.
Preferred: Candidate with experience in web mapping and/or web development as well as visualization and cartography highly desirable. Expertise in machine and deep learning will be an added advantage in this position.
Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check.
